Musiken från 60-talet minns vi och våra föräldrar med nostalgi, vi önskar vi levt då och de vill tillbaka till tiden då det verkligen begav sig! Det var rock musikens guldålder, man brukar säga att rocken föddes på 50 talet, på 60-talet blev den vuxen. Aldrig tidigare hade så många stilbildande, trendsättande och fantastiska band samtidigt erövrat rockscenen. Med tanke på att vissa band fortfarande håller på var det nog riktigt slitstarka band och sound som skapades. Ibland känns det som om mer parten av dagens artister försöker åstadkomma, återskapa det som Beatles, Rolling stones och deras kollegor lyckades med...men det blir bara ett svagt eko av en försvunnen atmosfär, 60-talets rock-klimat helt enkelt rockade!

We and our parents remember the music of the 60's with great nostalgy. We wish we would've been alive and they just want to return to the time, and age that really had some rock n'roll to talk about. It was the golden age of the rock music, one could say that rock was born in the 50's, in the 60's it grew up! Never before had there been so many great, influential, trendsetting bands conquering the rock stage at the same time. Just the fact that many of those bands still exist today, tells us about the great style and sound that was created. Sometimes it feels like most of todays bands are only trying to reach, to achieve the atmosphere that the Beatles, Rolling stones and their collegues stood for...but they only get as far as to a vague impression of a long lost era, the rock climate of the 60's simply rocked!

Twiggy-the first supermodel!
Twiggy är mer ett begrepp än ett namn i dagens modevärld. Hon var litet av 60-talets Kate Moss, helt i sin egen klass. Hennes barnsliga, späda kropp, hennes stora ögon och uttrycksfulla ansiktet satte standarden för hur man skulle posera och hur kläderna skulle sitta. Något som håller i sig än, det är delvis genom henne vi har ett sådant magerhetsideal på catwalken idag. Man kan inte neka till att hon har det där lilla extra. Hennes osvikliga nochalans framför kameran ger en känslan av att hon bara är sig själv och det räcker liksom hur långt som helst. Det är definitionen för en riktig ikon!
Twiggy is more of a conception than a name in the fashion world of today! She's something like the Kate Moss of the 60's. Her childlike, slender body, her big eyes and expressive face set the standard for how to pose and how the clothes where to be worn. Something that still works today, it's partially due to her that we have such a skinny ideal on the catwalk. One can't deny that she's got the it-factor. Her apparent nonchalance in front of the camera gives the feeling of her just being her self and that's more than enough. This is the definition of a real icon!

De stora förändringarna i manligt mode syntes i tygen som nu blev mycket lättare och gav en helt annan look. De manliga kostymerna blev nu mer figurnära med den påföljden att män såg mera kritiskt på sin kropp. Byxor som blev smalare nedtill kombinerades med "winkle picker" skor. Dessa skor hade alltså långa spetsiga tår. Jeans var populärare nu än någonsin och färggranna t-skjortor med blommiga mönster likaså. Unga män ville alltmera ha axellångt hår och kvinnor kort. Polon lyckades aldrig ersätta slips. Arbetar jackor i manchester tyg och Mao jackor blev mer är bara politiska uttalanden. Kostymer i tre delar (kavaj, byxor och väst) lyckades överleva även om det fanns försök att införa alternativa ”futuristiska” förslag.
The major change in menswear in the 60’s was in the weight of the fabric used. The choice of materials and the method of manufacture produced a suit that, because it was lighter in weight, had a totally different look. It had a line that was closer to the natural shape of the body. This caused that men had to look at their figures more critically. Narrow pants were worn by the fashionable young with 'winkle picker' shoes. These shoes have sharp and quite long pointed toes. The popularity of jeans grew and it served to a radical change in the male wardrobe. Young men grew their hair down to their collars at the same time that short hair was more desired by women. Men added a touch of color and even floral motives, to their shirts. The polo neck never succeeded in replacing the tie, but the adoption of the workman's jacket in rough corduroy, and especially the Mao jacket proved to be more than simply a political statement. There a few futuristic propositions for men’s suits but the three-piece suit still survived intact.

60-talet står för frigörelse i modet. Under 60-talet föddes bland annat bikini, minikjol och strumpbyxor. Det skedde stora förändringar gällande mode och ungdomar som nu var självständiga hade stor makt än någonsin över modeindustrin. För första gången fanns det ett ungdomsmode som var fri från konventioner skapade av den äldre generationen. Nu var det inte endast en trend som regerade utan ett överskott av olika möjligheter. Att inte följa modet betydde inte längre att man skulle vara fattig utan ett sätt att visa sin emancipation.
Till skillnad från sina mogna och extremt feminina mödrar valde kvinnor på 60-talet en stil som var flickig och barnasinnad. Man hade korta kjolar och uträtade kurvor och former som påminde om 20-talets look. I början av 60-talet var kjolarna ända till knän och blev kortare med tiden. 1965 var de så korta att strumpbyxor blev en nödvändighet.
Den grundläggande stilen var simpel, välvårdad, prydlig och ung. Syntetiska tyger användes flitigt under 60-talet eftersom dessa tyger gick lätt att färga samt gav ett lyft åt de klara och pigga färgerna som återspeglade stämningen på den tiden. Dock blev hattarna i skymundan och användes endast vid speciella tillfällen i slutet 60-talet. Korta klackar blev populärare än stilettklackar och mer eller mindre ersatte dem och spetsiga tår ersattes av rundformade för att sen kunna övergå till mandelformade tår. Between 1960 and 1969 a radical shake-up occurred in the fundamental structure of fashion. From the 1960s onward, there would never be just one single, prevailing trend or fashion but a great plethora of possibilities, indivisibly linked to all the various influences in other areas of people's lives. Young people, with a power and culture that were all their own, now at an age to speak out, were a force to be reckoned with and had a powerful impact on the fashion industry. For perhaps the first time in history, there was an independent youth fashion that was not based on the conventions of an older age group. In the past, failure to follow fashion merely meant that you were poor, but in the Sixties it became just as much a statement of personal freedom.
In stark contrast to their mature, ultra-feminine mothers, the women of the 1960s adopted a girlish, childlike style, with short skirts and straightened curves, reminiscent of the look of the 1920s. At the start of the decade skirts were knee-length, but steadily became shorter and shorter until the mini-skirt emerged in 1965. By the end of the decade they had shot well above the stocking top, making the transition to tights inevitable.
The basic shape and style of the time was simple, neat, clean cut, and young. Synthetic fabrics were very widely-used during the Sixties. They took dyes easily and well, giving rise to colors that were both clear and bright, very much mirroring the mood of the period. Hats suffered a great decline and by the end of the decade they were relegated to special occasions only. Lower kitten heels were a pretty substitute to stilettos. Pointed toes gave way to chisel shaped toes in 1961 and to an almond toe in 1963. Jess! Nu återupptar vi bloggandet om modehistoria. Vi ska börja precis där vi avslutade nämligen 60-talet. Det blir riktigt spännande den här gången för vi kommer att ha en annan struktur på det hela. Vi kommer att blogga en hel vecka om 60-talet! Vi ska också behandla olika aspekter av samhället som påverkade modet så det är bäst att ni hänger med.
Yeah, now we'll restart blogging about the history of fashion and start exactly where we stopped namely the groovie 60's. This time it will be really exciting because we'll have a totally different structure for the blogs about the 60's. A whole week is reserved for the 60's and we'll try to discuss the different aspects of the society that effected fashion at that time, so sit back and relax.

1950's no more war, but what to wear?
Både män och kvinnor använde nu byxor, det blev populärt med en trekvartsmodell, koftor och helheter där överdelen och underdelen hörde ihop blev också moderiktiga. Kvinnornas hår var lockigt och halvlångt, sminket var också viktigt, speciellt det röda läppstiftet. Stora designer namn som idag blivit modeikoner är t.ex. Hubert de Givenchy och Coco Chanel
Kändiskulturen från USA fortsatte att influera mode världen. Det var kanske det mest effektiva sättet att sprida en trend, hade Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly eller Audrey Hepburn på sig något i en film, kunde man garanterat se samma stil på unga damer runt om i världen inom kort.
Samtidigt som mode och kultur blev allt viktigare, hade kriget ändrat folks attityder. På 20 och 30 talet trodde man på progress och förändring, nu värnade man om stabilitet och ordning. Detta syntes både i modet, i musiken, i hemmen och i politiken. Kvinnor skulle vara kvinnor och deras viktigaste roll var att sköta barnen, hushållet, sig själva och sina män. Samhällsrollerna och kraven var mycket strikta och snäva.
Smånigom uppstod dock en reaktion mot detta. Ungdomen startade en sorts kulturrevolution, de försökte frigöra sig och omdefiniera sig själva, ta avstånd från den stränga ordningen och kriget. Ett av revolutionens uttryck blev rock and roll, tillsammans med bl.a. en starkare sexualisering skapades en ny ungdomskultur, något som inte egentligen existerat förut. Tidigare hade ungdomar klätt sig på samma sätt som sina förädrar. Nu blev Elvis och andra rebelliska idoler förebilder för den nya allt annat än outmanande stilen.
Vuxna män använde ännu kostymer och liknade lättare men städade kläder, ungdomarna började använda jeans, korta tighta blusar och jackor, håret stylades med vax och frisyren var mer fixad och uppseendeväckande än tidigare.
Flickorna använde mer figurnära byxor, kjolar och blusar än tidigare, de framhävde sin sexualitet och kvinnlighet. Speciellt ungdomar tog intryck från olika former av populärkultur, visserligen var den rebelliska stilen då mer subkulturell men den kom att påverka den framtida modevärlden på ett betydande sätt.
In the 1950's the fashion industry reawoked. It was a time of nostalgy, bulding up society, change, and a classical style. After the second worldwar when the fashion houses reopened, Dior introduced the "new look". Since there was no longer a need to save fabric the skirts became longer, at the same time the waist was to be smaller, together with the broad shoulders the new silhuette was introduced. It can best be described like two triangles against each other.
Trousers where now commonly worn by both men and women, the most popular model was the 3/4 style, cardigans, and sets where the top or jacket and the skirt matched perfectly also became fashionable. The women cut theur hair to and middle length, and made it curly, the make up was also important, especially the red lipstic. Now some very important designer houses made a name for themselves, just to name a couple of them we have Hubert Givenchy and Coco Chanel, who are important names to this day.
The celebrity culture from Hollywood still influensed the fashion industriy greatly. It was one of the most effective ways to create a trend. If Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn wore something in a movie, women all over the world would soon be wearing it too.
Even if fashion and culture became more and more important, the war had still changed peoples attitudes. In the 1920's and 30's there was a belief in progress and change, now people where looking for stability and order more than anything. This is something that influenced both fashion, music, family values and politics. Women had to be women, and their most important task in life was to take care of the children, the household, themselves and their men. The gender roles and expectations were very strict and tight.
After sometime though a contrary movement against this was born. The youngsters wanted to rebell, redefine them selves and brake free from the order and the war. One of the faces of this revolution was rock and roll, togheter with among other things a stronger sexualisation the new youth culture was created, something that really hadn't existed before. Untill the 1950's adults and youngsters had been dressing alike, now rebellious idols like Elvis Presley became the style icons for the new fashion.
Grown up men still wore suits, cardigans and other classical clothes, but young men started to wear jeans, tight blouses, leather jackets and style their hair with grease in a messy and challenging way. The girls used tighter trousers, skirts and blouses, they empazized their sexuality and femininity. Especially the younger generations took influences from popular culture. Even if the new style then was more sub cultural, it has influenced the fashion world of today in an important way.
